Endgame comment

This blog received its first comment recently, a suggestion that in the game posted below "instead of 241 [I] should have played 242."

Indeed.  I believe I thought my black group at the top was dead, so the best I could do was squeeze out one point.  The group is dead, but has enough aji to do a bit better.  White is short of liberties, so if he plays like this:

the result is seki, fantastic for me.

My group still gets killed when White plays this way:

but at least I do 5 points better.

Another game

Here's another game. I won this one when my opponent resigned.

It might seem more reckless than the ones previously posted, but this is actually fairly typical of my games. The games that are close enough to be decided by careful endgame plays and ko fights are rare. But close games will probably be over-represented here because they tend to be more interesting in the original line of play and also present more interesting points for analysis.

Anyway, here we go.

The numbering system is intended to be unique and will generally be increasing, but some numbers won't be used and sometimes lower numbers might appear later.

Another game

Another game.  This time I play Black. Again I lost by a wide margin. I don't always lose, but, as they say, we learn from our mistakes, so I figure if I review the games in which I make the most mistakes, then I must be learning a lot!

Game

Here's another game. Not a total disaster, but I lost by a wide margin.

First game

Here's my first game.

It took a while, since I was working out a Python script to create the board graphic with the Python Imaging Library.

Also, I struggled a bit with boastMachine, which had some issues and didn't quite run smoothly out of the box.  But hopefully I'm ready to run now.

See the attached SGF for some game comments.  This was a close loss for me.

The games are from PANDANET IGS; the names of the opponents are changed to protect the innocent. icon_biggrin
